Trump at Social Security's 90th: Call Waits 'Down 73 Percent'; on Warren: 'She's Got to Take a Drug Test' (August 14, 2025)
On the 90th anniversary of Social Security, President Donald Trump told seniors their checks are safe, and blamed Democrats for the scare stories. “You keep hearing stories that in 6 years, 7 years, Social Security will be gone. And it will be if the Democrats ever get involved, because they don’t know what they’re doing. But it’s going to be around a long time with us,” Trump said in the Oval Office on Aug. 14, 2025, according to the transcript published by the American Presidency Project [1].
“In the campaign, I made a sacred pledge to our seniors that I would always protect Social Security. And under this administration, we’re keeping that promise and strengthening Social Security for generations to come,” he said [1].

”Call Wait Times Are Down 73 Percent”
Trump compared the agency now to the Biden years. “The average call wait time reached an alltime high of more than 42 minutes,” he said of the last administration [1].
“Field office wait times are now down 30 percent since last year,” Trump said. “Call wait times are down 73 percent, while serving twice as many customers per day. The disability claims backlog is down 26 percent.” [1]
“And seniors now have 24/7 online access to their accounts, which they never had before—whereas, under Biden, the website was down 29 hours a week for maintenance purposes,” he said [1].
“275,000 Illegal Aliens”
Trump said fraud was being cleaned out. “And to protect our benefits, we’ve already kicked nearly 275,000 illegal aliens off of the Social Security system. These are people—many of them have already left the country. And yet, we were sending them checks all the time,” he said [1].
“We cleared 12.4 million names listed in the Social Security database over 120 years of age. Think of that,” Trump said [1].
He credited his commissioner, Frank Bisignano, a former chief operating officer of JPMorgan Chase. “He’s running it, and he’s running it like nobody ever even dreamt possible,” Trump said [1].
“To serve 300 million Americans, which is what Social Security serves, is a tremendous honor,” Bisignano said [1].
”She’s Got to Take a Drug Test”
Cara Castronuova of LindellTV asked about the Democrats. “Democrats like Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren continue to peddle the lie and the claim that you’re trying to cut Social Security despite your repeated promises to protect it,” Castronuova said [1].
“I love your question,” Trump said. “It’s so vicious, what they do.” [1]
He went after Sen. Elizabeth Warren. “Elizabeth Warren said she was an Indian. We call her ‘Pocahontas.’ She’s a liar. She lied her whole career,” Trump said [1].
“I watched her the other night. She’s all hopped up endorsing a Communist in New York City, and she was all excited and jumping up and down. She’s got to take a drug test. She really does,” he said [1].
On Sen. Bernie Sanders, Trump was gentler. “Bernie Sanders is Bernie Sanders. I don’t mind him so much. He’s just a liberal guy—very liberal guy. He’s a wacky guy. He’s still sharp, I got to tell you,” he said [1].
”Getting the Criminals the Hell Out”
Trump turned to his crackdown on crime in Washington. “Crime is rampant in DC. It’s rampant in our, generally, blue-run cities. And they’ve got to do something about it, or they’re never going to win another election,” he said [1].
“We’re going to be beautifying the city, making it really beautiful. We’re going to be getting the criminals the hell out of here. We don’t want the criminals in Washington, DC,” Trump said [1].
”Save Thousands of Soldiers a Week”
Asked about the next day’s summit in Alaska, Trump said he was not spending money on Ukraine anymore. “Biden gave them $350 billion. Got nothing for it,” he said. “But what I’m really doing this for is to save thousands of soldiers a week.” [1]
“We have a meeting with President Putin tomorrow. I think it’s going to be a good meeting, but the more important meeting will be the second meeting that we’re having,” Trump said [1].

What Happened Next
The proclamation. In Proclamation 10964, signed that day, Trump wrote: “On the 90th anniversary of the establishment of this historic program, I recommit to always defending Social Security, rewarding the men and women who make our country prosperous, and taking care of our own workers, families, seniors, and citizens first.” [2]
“To further strengthen Social Security, my Administration is aggressively rooting out all fraud, waste, and abuse that rob our Federal programs of resources—including stopping payments to the deceased and eliminating benefits for those who do not legally qualify,” the proclamation says [2].
