On 6/16/2022, during press conference, Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy pressed White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre to explain why President Biden’s administration is seeking to alleviate skyrocketing gas prices by calling on oil companies to increase productivity at refineries instead of calling for more drilling. Jean-Pierre confirmed that Joe Biden is moving full steam ahead to end fossil fuels despite soaring gas prices. “Why not just drill more here in the U.S., though?” Doocy asked. “Because we don’t need to do that,” Jean-Pierre responded. “What we need [oil companies] to do is, with the oil that’s out there, we need them to refine that oil so that the capacity can go up and that prices would go down.”
Doocy pressed Jean-Pierre, “The president once said he’s going to end fossil fuel. Is that now off the table?” “No. We are going to continue to move forward…” Jean-Pierre said.
The exchange comes days after Biden sent a letter threatening oil companies with executive intervention if they do not increase capacity at their refineries. Biden blamed oil companies for running “historically high profit margins” even as Americans experience surging gas prices. After waging a war on the fossil fuel industry, the Biden White House is now blaming oil refineries for not doing a “patriotic duty” by increasing oil output. Joe Biden made it very clear that he was going to shut down the oil industry. “No more drilling on federal lands. No more drilling, including offshore. No ability for the oil industry to continue to drill. Period.” Biden said in 2020. Joe Biden followed through with his threats and closed down the Keystone XL Pipeline in January 2021. Now Biden is blaming oil refineries and accusing them of price gouging.
Jean-Pierre could not say how Vice President Kamala Harris’ “task force” is different from President Biden’s Ministry of Truth. Jean-Pierre said “we believe that we are in a transition right now” on the economy. She said President Biden is doing “everything” to get formula, but shelves are still empty.
New York Post reporter Steven Nelson accused the White House of blacklisting reporters from events. “For more than a year now the White House press office has been having everyone in this room RSVP to presidential events in the East Room, the State Dining Room, the Executive Office Building,” said Nelson. “And then there’s a process where people are selected and able to go into these presidential events where the president often takes questions.” Nelson said that the White House Correspondent’s Association has “tried in vain to figure out how this process works. And over time it has kind of morphed into this blacklist where certain large media outlets such as my own are —”
Jean-Pierre jumped in: “A blacklist? That’s…”
“I’m just saying I represent the fourth-largest newspaper in the country and I haven’t been selected since November,” explained Nelson.
“That’s a jump for it to a blacklist,” said Jean-Pierre. “But I’m listening. I’m listening.” Nelson explained that it wasn’t just him who’s felt excluded from covering certain White House events. “I didn’t realize that,” said Jean-Pierre. Jean-Pierre asked to look into the matter. “I think blacklisting is a very strong word to use,” she said.
