Video refutes rape claim against Texas state trooper
Sherita Dixon-Cole, 37, alleged that she was sexually assaulted by a Texas Highway Patrol trooper during her DWI arrest. She claimed the trooper told her he would let her go in exchange for sex. When she said no, she claimed the trooper sexually assaulted her.
Dixon-Cole’s story was widely shared on social media, aided and amplified by social activist Shaun King. The police released body camera footage that starkly conflicted with Dixon-Cole’s claims. Police said they were “appalled” by the “despicable, slanderous and false” accusation.
After the release of this video, Dixon-Cole’s lawyer S. Lee Merritt apologized for her sexual assault claims.
King now disagrees with Dixon-Cole’s claims that the body camera footage must have been edited because from start to finish, Dixon-Cole does not look like she is being repeatedly sexually assaulted and threatened.
According to Dixon-Cole’s LinkedIn profile, she works for HR Management Solutions and is also employed with Teleperformance. She previously worked as a senior HR specialist for Levi Strauss & Co. She has a bachelor of science in human resources management from the University of Texas at Austin. She also has a master’s degree in International Human Resources from Capella University.
