The United States paid this teen’s family $1 million in a wrongful-death lawsuit.

Mexican family received $1 million settlement after 16-year-old Cruz Marcelino Velazquez Acevedo forced to drink liquid meth on border to prove his claim that it was apple juice. There was no apology or admission of wrongdoing, and both officers testified that they never received a reprimand for their conduct. In a motion to dismiss the case earlier, one attorney said Velazquez wasn’t a U.S. citizen and had no connections with the United States that entitled him to any constitutional rights.
