Police: Kenneka Jenkins case closed, teen’s death an accident
The Rosemont Police Department on Friday officially closed the case of Kenneka Jenkins, ruling the death was not foul play and released many photos, even crime scene photos of the teen’s body inside the hotel freezer where it was discovered. However, lawyers for Jenkins’ mother say these photos “raise more questions than answers.”
Friends said Jenkins had left a private party in a hotel room, which was attended by more than 30 people and featured heavy drinking and drug use. Jenkins had a blood alcohol level of 112 mg/dL, which is almost 50% higher than the legal limit. Her blood also contained Topiramate, which is a prescription drug used to prevent seizures. Her family said she had not been prescribed the drug.
Rosemont detectives have identified a man and a woman they believe rented the hotel room with a fraudulent credit card, but haven’t yet found them. These individuals are affiliated with a gang. There were also multiple gang members from the Vice Lords and other Chicago gangs at the party, according to interviews conducted during the investigation.
Note that her age was 19, not 29 as was written on one of the captions. Our apologies for the error.
