Karine Jean-Pierre On A Potential Impeachment Of AG Garland: Biden “Respects The Rule Of Law”
On 6/26/2023, a reporter asked hite House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, “Over the weekend, Speaker McCarthy floated this idea of launching an impeachment inquiry targeting Attorney General Merrick Garland. And the focus here, according to the Speaker, would be Merrick Garland’s weaponization of the DOJ. What’s your reaction to that idea?
KJP: So, as you’ve heard me say repeatedly, over and over again at this podium, is that the President respects the Department of Justice’s independence. He respects the rule of law … look, we’ve been very clear: I just laid out — we talked about Bidenomics … it’s unfortunate that congressional Republicans want to continue to focus on an issue that Americans are — that’s not their priority.
On Hunter Biden’s Appearance At State Dinner, Jean-Pierre Claims Biden Takes Ethics “Very Seriously”
Karine Jean-Pierre Walks Away from Podium When Asked if Biden Told His Family Not to Conduct Business on White House Grounds
On 6/26/2023, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked if Joe Biden told his family not to conduct business on White House grounds.
Real Clear News reporter Philip Wegmann asked KJP if there are any ‘guard rails’ in place in light of the Hunter Biden scandal involving Joe Biden.
Wegmann was referring to Hunter Biden’s appearance at a State Dinner on the South Lawn last week. Hunter Biden was seen rubbing elbows with powerful and wealthy elitists at a State Dinner for Indian PM Modi.
“It’s not unusual for presidents to invite…their family to WH functions…I’m curious…in light of…the recent legal controversy if [Biden] communicated to…his family not to conduct business on WH grounds. Can you tell us about any kinds of guardrails”? Philip Wegmann asked.
Karine Jean-Pierre refused to answer the question citing an ongoing DOJ investigation. KJP: “I’m just not going to speak to anything that’s related to this case.”
Wegmann: “Do any guardrails exist?” KJP repeats her previous answer
“When it comes to ethics, we take that very, very seriously,” Karine Jean-Pierre said before walking away from the lectern.
Q: Hatch Act? your office has continued use of the term “MAGA.”
On 6/23/2023, a reporter asked hite House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, “There was a lot of discussion last week around the Hatch Act and use of — of the term “MAGA.” Despite the Office of Special Counsel’s opinion on the matter, your office has continued to put out paper using that phrase. You have, in the past, have brushed off all questions about any political concern, saying this administration follows the law. So why, in this case, are you going with your own interpretation of the law rather than the independent Office of the Special Counsel?”
KJP: Oh, I wouldn’t say it’s our own interpretation of the law. I would strongly disagree with that statement … So congressional Republicans has also used the term, as I mentioned here last week when I was asked about this, the same phrase — the same phrase to discuss their own agendas, their own proposals, their own policies. And so, we have used the term “MAGA” in an official capacity. As we are — when you think about the context, when we talk about their proposals, that’s how we’ve used it — and related — and their related values, as Republican officials say.
Technical difficulties, This sounds so weird, guys (Laughs.)
Reporter: … will you say that Xi Jinping is a dictator? Is that the official position of the U.S. government?
KJP: Look, the President spoke for himself. I’m just not going to go beyond what he said. John just spoke to it and then Hmm, there’s a feedback. (Laughter.) It’s weird hearing your voice.
Reporter: It’s a new form of message discipline.
KJP: That’s one way to look at it there, James.
Reporter: So —
KJP: Is it good? Are we good to go?
Reporter: We don’t object to hearing more from you.
Reporter: Are we good?
KJP: I object. (Laughs.) Hello?
Reporter: I think you should call WHCA.
KJP: All right. I’ll tr- — I’ll try my best here. This sounds so weird, guys. So, look, the President is going to continue to speak candidly. That will never change — (Laughs.)
