Joshua was born December 23, 2013, on FT Belvoir, VA. He was diagnosed with Stage IV Kidney Cancer (Wilm’s Tumor) on Father’s Day weekend 2017 at the age of three. The tumor had spread to his abdomen lymph nodes and his lungs. They removed an 11cm tumor along with his left kidney. He underwent radiation therapy to his abdomen and chemotherapy. He finished December 30, 2017, and was considered officially in remission. In mid-January 2018, a tumor was discovered in his left lung. It was surgically removed, and verified to be the cancer returning. Starting April 19, 2018, Joshua will start a new six-month regimen of chemotherapy, which will be much stronger and more aggressive than previously. They will harvest his stem cells, as well as perform another round of radiation therapy, this time on his whole chest.

His treatments will take place at Aurora Children’s Hospital, where he will stay for three straight days of chemotherapy, and possibly an extra day, depending on if he is well enough to travel home to recover. He will become very sick through this next round, and it will be a trying time for all involved.

His mother, Amanda Salmoiraghi, is a Major in the USAF stationed at Peterson AFB. The family just moved here in March from Los Angeles, CA. His father, Joseph Salmoiraghi, is a disabled veteran and a Pastor. His brothers, Benjamin (10) and Timothy (7) attend Stetson Elementary.
