Biden: tonight before clock strikes 12 that we have a deal, I Don’t Bow to Anybody!

“I Don’t Bow to Anybody!” – Joe Biden After Reporter Needles Him on Democrat Criticism of His Willingness to Cave to McCarthy on Work Requirements

On 5/26/2023, Joe Biden stopped to chat with reporters posted up on the South Lawn as he departed en route to Camp David for the weekend. Biden said he’s going to Camp David, a presidential retreat located in Catoctin Mountain Park in Maryland because the Secret Service is bulletproofing his Delaware home.

Reporters asked Joe Biden about debt limit negotiations as the June 5 deadline quickly approaches. “With regard to debt limit things are looking good. Very optimistic. I hope we’ll have some clear evidence tonight before the clock strikes 12 that we have a deal. Very close,” Biden told reporters.

Biden got snarky with a reporter asking about the work requirements for food stamp (SNAP) recipients. According to reports, Biden appeared to be open to negotiating on work requirement for certain federal program recipients. The Democrats are not happy about this and criticized Biden for being open to negotiating with Speaker McCarthy.

“What do you tell Democrats who say they don’t want you to bow on the work requirement? What’s your position?” a reporter asked Biden. “I don’t bow to anybody!” Biden shouted as he shuffled away.

Biden said, “With regard to the debt limit, things are looking good and very optimistic. I hope we’ll have some clearer evidence tonight before the clock strikes 12 that we have a deal, but it’s very close, and I’m optimistic. The reason I’m going to Camp David is they are working on the Secret Service working on my house, bulletproofing that so there’s no place to go at home. Instead of being out for five weeks, so I’m going to Camp David because my granddaughter graduates on Sunday, and it’s the closest way I can get there to be at her graduation.”

Scalise: Biden took 97 day to meet, we already have the votes, we are the only body On 5/24/2023, Steve Scalise on House Floor said, “Or maybe my colleagues on the other side are having buyer’s remorse, or should I say voters’ remorse, that every single one of them voted against addressing the debt ceiling over a month ago when we brought that bill to the floor.

Now, Madam Speaker, there is a remedy. If anyone in this chamber, including my friends on the other side, would like to see this problem addressed, they should go over to the Senate side. Or frankly, there’s no one there. They should get on the phone and call the Democrat Senators who run the Senate and chose to be out this whole week because they took this so seriously. Or call the White House and ask the president why he took 97 days off after the first meeting with Speaker McCarthy when the speaker was ready to negotiate.

We’re still here. We have done our job. We have acted. We are, in fact, the only body in this town who has actually taken steps to address the debt ceiling and the spending problem in Washington. I would encourage the Senate to take up the bill. I would encourage the president to get engaged and address this problem, but we already have the votes on the board.

I asked, “Let the house be in order and there be some decorum on the other side.” Speaker Kevin McCarthy Calls for Transformational Spending Reform On 5/26/2023, McCarthy said, “We can’t get those 97 days back that President Biden wasted by refusing to negotiate. But I’m not just fighting for an agreement—I’m fighting for transformational reform that’s worthy of the American people.”

McCarthy: We have more money in any given time but Dems spend more than at any time in American history On 5/25/2023, Kevin McCarthy said, “We want to make sure we have an agreement that’s worthy of the American public. Remember why we are where we are today. We have more money in any given time coming into America, not just a dollar figure but by GDP. But when the Democrats took the majority, we are now spending more than at any time in American history, even by a GDP factor. And we owe more than at any time in American history. So, it is incumbent upon us to get this right, and that’s why we’re working through it, and it’s not easy. But everybody knows the responsibilities. Everybody’s very professional in these meetings. And look, I’m the total optimist. We will get this done, and we will have a better bill.”

Transportation Sec. Pete Buttigieg says EVs are “typically” cheaper than gas-powered vehicles. On 5/23/2023, Buttigieg said, “I would also note that we do careful cost-benefit analyses on regulations related to the efficiency of gas cars, and those rules have saved Americans huge amounts of money in terms of gas and diesel costs. And of course, making EVs more affordable will also make it easier for more Americans to take advantage of the fact that it is cheaper to fill up a car or truck with electrons typically than
