Biden Slowly Lowers His Hand From His Heart After Realizing They’re Playing Indian National Anthem

#shorts President Biden caused an awkward spectacle, putting his hand on his heart for the Indian national anthem as he welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the White House. The 80-year-old commander-in-chief rolled out the red carpet for Modi, who has served as India’s prime minister since 2014, as part of a state visit to bolster the Washington-New Delhi alliance amid mounting tensions with Russia and China. The two, joined by about 7,000 guests, were treated to music from the United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps and a multi-gun salute as they stood shoulder to shoulder on the South Lawn.

As the first notes of the Indian anthem, “Jana Gana Mana,” sounded, Biden raised his right hand to his left breast, holding it there for about 15 seconds. He then slowly lowered it, apparently recognizing the bands were not playing “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

On 6/22/2023, Joe Biden held a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Modi in the Oval Office. The two met in the Oval Office to discuss US-India relations after an awkward greeting ceremony on the South Lawn. Biden has not been able to let go of Modi’s hand since he arrived to the White House.
