WH: comparison that you made is just ridiculous; Peter Doocy called out Jean-Pierre

On 9/6/2022, during White House briefing, Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy asked White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre if she believes the 2016 election was “stolen” following criticisms leveled by President Biden against the GOP. Jean-Pierre was called out by Fox News reporter Peter Doocy over her tweets stating President Trump and Georgia Governor Brian Kemp stole their respective 2016 elections. Doocy asked in the context of Joe Biden attacking ‘MAGA Republicans’ as 2020 election deniers. Doocy asked, “…the new attention on the MAGA Republicans, you tweeted…” Jean-Pierre: “Oh, I knew this was coming!”

Doocy: “…in 2016 Trump stole an election. You tweeted…”

Jean-Pierre: “I was waiting Peter when you were gonna ask me that question. (Laughs.)

Doocy: “Well, here we go. You tweeted Trump stole an election. You tweeted Brian Kemp stole an election. If denying election results is extreme now, why wasn’t it then.?”

Jean-Pierre: “Yeah, so, let’s let’s be really clear. That, that comparison you made is just ridiculous. I have been…”

Doocy: “No, it’s not ridiculous”

Jean-Pierre: “…You’re asking, you’re asking me a question, let me answer it.”

Doocy: “And you said it was ridiculous.”

Jean-Pierre: “I was, I was talking specifically at that time of what was happening with voting rights and the, what was in danger of voting rights, that’s what I was speaking to at the time.”

Jean-Pierre tweeted on December 17, 2016, “Stolen emails, stolen drone, stolen election …..welcome to the world of #unpresidented Trump” On March 12, 2019, Jean-Pierre said of the 2016 Georgia governor election in response to a comment claiming voter suppression and cheating, “Yes – the race was stolen.” A year later on April 2, 2020, Jean-Pierre accused Kemp of stealing the election from Abrams, “Reminder: Brian Kemp stole the gubernatorial election from Georgians and Stacey Abrams.”

Doocy asked, “If we’re all in agreement that it is incorrect to say the 2020 election was stolen, what about the 2016 election?” Doocy asked Jean-Pierre during the White House daily briefing with reporters .

“We’re gonna focus on the here and now. We’re going to focus on what’s happening today,” she replied.

Jean-Pierre also criticized the Fox News reporter for his question. “Let’s be really clear that that comparison that you made is just ridiculous,” Jean-Pierre said. “I was talking specifically at that time of what was happening with voting rights and what was danger of voting rights.”

Last week, Biden slammed Republicans loyal to Trump as a threat to democracy, saying there was “no question that the Republican Party today is dominated, driven and intimidated by Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans. And that is a threat to this country.”
