On 9/17/2024, President Donald Trump was back in Michigan. He held a campaign town hall meeting in Flint, Michigan. Trump’s former press secretary, Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, moderated the event. The town hall was Trump’s first event since Sunday’s apparent assassination attempt at his golf course in Florida.

Trump said the Secret Service “did a hell of a job, they really did,” in stopping Sunday’s apparent attempted assassination. He praised the agents who identified and stopped the would-be assassin. “Now, they do need more people, and they’ve been complaining about that for a long time. But he did a great job,” he said. Trump praised a witness who saw the man jump into a car and took pictures of the license plate and sent those photos to the sheriff’s office. “So the guy is now running for his life and he’s got a car about a block away or whatever… and a woman driving a car saw a man on the street running, she followed him and he got into the car and she stopped because she thought he was trouble,” he said. “She followed him, it wasn’t very far and parked the car behind his car and started taking pictures of his license plate.” “She saw something and decided it was bad,” he said of the witness. “Think of it — who would do this? If you took 1,000 of these incidents, would even one person have done it?”
