Top Biden Spox John Kirby: “Not A Consensus Right Now” On COVID Origin Despite Lab Leak News

#shorts On 2/27/2023, Fox News White House correspondent Jacqui Heinrich asked NSC Spox John Kirby, “John, on the Department of Energy’s findings, the lab leak most likely caused the pandemic. How should Americans respo- — how should Americans understand China’s response here, saying that this is politically motivated, it’s a lie, there’s no science to back it, and swatting down this information?

MR. KIRBY: … There is not a consensus right now in the U.S. government about exactly how COVID started. There is just not an intelligence community consensus. And, I would add, one of the things the President did was he — he’s the one who tasked the National Labs, which report up through the Department of Energy, to study this as well. So, it wasn’t just an effort that was confined to the intelligence community.

John Kirby fielded questions from reporters in the White House press briefing room. Fox News White House correspondent Jacqui Heinrich asked National Security Council spokesman Adm. John Kirb about the Wall Street Journal’s latest report on the origins of Covid-19. The US Energy Department came out and claimed that Covid was released from a lab. But no American entity has yet to claim that the release was intentional. “The new report highlights how different parts of the intelligence community have arrived at disparate judgments about the pandemic’s origin. The Energy Department now joins the Federal Bureau of Investigation in saying the virus likely spread via a mishap at a Chinese laboratory. Four other agencies, along with a national intelligence panel, still judge that it was likely the result of a natural transmission, and two are undecided.” – the Wall Street Journal reported over the weekend.
