On 4/17/2023, Speaker McCarthy contrasts GOP-controlled House and do-nothing Democrat-controlled Senate. Here are just the facts of Senator Schumer’s Democrat Senate. It has passed only 10 subsidence bills in a hundred days. That’s less than one a week. Just think about that. As the House has passed a bill to fire 87,000 IRS agents, but Senator Schumer’s Senate passed a non-binding resolution recognizing the importance of maple syrup production to Maine and designating March 26, 2023, as Maine’s maple syrup Sunday. The House has passed the Parents Bill of Rights, which gives parents a say in their kids’ education. Senator Schumer hasn’t taken up the bill yet, but the Senate did find the time to pass a non-binding resolution designating March 1st as a national assistant technology awareness day. And it goes on and on, where the House of Representatives has become a house of resolutions.
Speaker McCarthy on House GOP’s first 100 days: “The People’s House is a productive House again.” Today is a historical day that marks the 100th day that the Republicans took the majority in the House and were sworn in. One thing that is abundantly clear is the People’s House is a productive House again. The first thing we did was make sure members showed up for work, no longer staying home. That you came to work. We hit the ground running on delivering the commitment to America. And the numbers just speak for themselves. In the first hundred days of the 118th Congress, the House has introduced more than three thousand pieces of legislation. It’s taken more than 182 roll call votes and voted on more than 59 bills, 86 percent of them being bipartisan. Of the 36th bipartisan bills that have passed, Democrats have cast 4,705 yay votes on them.
Speaker McCarthy: “If we get our spending under control, we will end the dependence on China.” I have full confidence that if we limit our federal spending, if we save the taxpayer money, if we grow our economy, yes, we will end the dependence on China. We will curb inflation, and we will protect Social Security and Medicare for the Next Generation. And America will be stronger for it. If you agree, don’t sit back, join us.
Speaker Kevin McCarthy: “Biden has been missing in action and misleading the public.” I met with President Biden at the White House on February 1st, 75 days ago. During our meeting, I told the President clearly, “Let’s find a way to come to an agreement, like we have before.” Had the President agreed to negotiate in good faith, we’d already be done. Unfortunately, I have not heard from the White House since our very first meeting. President Biden has been missing in action and misleading the public. Mr. President, with all due respect, enough is enough.
Biden Spox Kirby Won’t Comment On Walter Reed Canceling Contract With Catholic Priests
On 4/10/2023, a reporter asked White House John Kirby, “I don’t know if you’re familiar with this, but this is making a lot of headlines today, this story. Walter Reed, up the road in Bethesda — a leading Catholic Bishop says Walter Reed Medical Center is violating the religious freedom of service members who are at the facility. And they say that because Walter Reed just ended its contract with the archdiocese for the military services for providing pastoral care.
The archdiocese calls the move, quote, “incomprehensible.” Are you familiar with the story? And can you expand on it —
MR. KIRBY: No —
Reporter: and why the contract was ended?
MR. KIRBY: — I’m afraid I’m not. And even — even if I was, really, this is a better question for the Department of Defense.
