On 9/29/2022, GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy, Whip Steve Scalise, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik joined House Republicans on the Capitol Steps to discuss the Commitment to America to create an economy that’s strong, a nation that’s safe, a future that’s built upon freedom, and a government that’s accountable.
GOPs pitched the Republican’s “Commitment to America” agenda. The agenda is reminiscent of the Republican’s plan of a similar name from 1994, “Contract to America,” which was spearheaded by former Republican Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich.
MCCARTHY:
“In 40 days, Americans have a decision to make,” Rep. McCarthy said. standing on the East steps of the Capitol Thursday morning. “‘Do they want an economy that’s strong, that will make America energy independent, lower your gas prices, slow the growth of inflation?’”
“Republicans have worked for the last year and a half, and we have the “Commitment to America.” The policies that create a plan to put us on a new track. It’s a plan for an economy that is strong. Where you can fill up your tank and feed your families. Where paychecks grow, not shrink … It’s a plan for a future that is built on freedom, where children come first and are taught to dream big. A plan for government that is accountable, where politicians don’t get special treatment and Americans get answers.”
“When you buy groceries or pay your electricity bill, you might wonder, ‘Can I afford this?’ Millions of Americans are asking that question because Democrats’ reckless government spending has led to record inflation and driven us into a recession. The White House and Democratic majority in Congress control Washington. This is their record. Yet they don’t intend to fix it. But Republicans have a plan for a new direction to get our country back on track. It’s called the Commitment to America. House Republicans are committed to delivering a strong economy, letting you feed your family and heat your home without breaking the bank. The Commitment to America stops wasteful Washington spending to lower the price of groceries, gas, cars and housing and stop the rising national debt. It also prioritizes cutting the oil-and-gas-permitting process time in half, lowering energy costs and creating good-paying jobs by unleashing reliable, abundant American-made energy. And it modernizes outdated regulations to expand American manufacturing, strengthen our supply chain and end our dependence on China for critical goods.”
It’s been nearly one week since House Republicans first launched their Commitment to America from the shop floor of a manufacturing facility outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It’s a comprehensive plan to get our country back on track after two years of failures from a Democrat-controlled Washington, and it’s based on a simple idea: Washington should work for YOU—not the other way around.
House Republican Whip Steve Scalise speaks about the Commitment to America. The House Republican plan fights inflation, lowers the cost of living, and gets our economy back on track. The plan includes:
Eliminating wasteful government spending that’s driving inflation; driving national debt; and raising the prices of groceries, gas, cars, and housing.
Continuing proven pro-growth tax policies that increase take-home pay, reduce the cost of living, boost local businesses, and encourage innovation and growth.
Reconnecting workers to jobs and ending incentives that enable people to earn more by staying home rather than going to work.
