On 11/22/2022, Dr. Fauci gave his final briefing before officially retiring. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said, “As you all know, Dr. Fauci is retiring next month. And I’m honored — so honored to have him join me today one last time, one more time at the podium.”
DR. FAUCI: Thank you very much, Karine, for that really very — very kind introduction. It’s really a great pleasure to be back here with you again, albeit, I believe, for the last time.
He gave an update next to Dr. Ashish Jha.
Chaos erupted after Karine Jean-Pierre refused to call on a reporter who wanted to ask Fauci questions. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre snapped at Daily Caller White House correspondent Diana Glebova. But Jean-Pierre shut Glebova down and rebuked her for speaking out of turn. “We have a process here. I’m not calling out on people who yell. And you’re being … disrespectful to your colleagues, and you’re being disrespectful to our guest,” Jean-Pierre said. “I will not call on you if you yell, and also you’re taking time off the clock because Dr. Fauci has to leave in a couple of minutes.” When Glebova objected, Jean-Pierre said she was “done” and was “not getting into a back-and-forth with you.”
Then Today News Africa journalist Simon Ateba spoke up and said her question was valid and should be asked. “You need to call people across the room. She has a valid question, she’s asked …” Ateba said. “It is not your turn,” Jean-Pierre shot back. “I hear your question, but we’re not doing this the way you want it. This is disrespectful … Simon, I’m done. Simon, I’m done. I’m done with you right now. You’re taking time away from your colleagues.”
MS. JEAN-PIERRE: Hold on one second. We have a process here. I’m not calling out on people who yell. And you’re being —
Reporter: You call on the same people every single time.
MS. JEAN-PIERRE: You’re being — you’re being disrespectful to your colleagues, and you’re being disrespectful to our guests. I will not call on you if you yell. And also, you’re taking time off the clock because Dr. Fauci has to leave in a couple of minutes.
Reporter: I think that’s
Reporter: You’re being disrespectful.
MS. JEAN-PIERRE: I’m done. I’m not going — I’m not getting into a back-and-forth with you. Go ahead, Jeremy.
Reporter: Could we get an answer to the question?
Reporter: Thanks. Dr. Fauci —
Reporter: But she’s asking — she’s asking a great question.
Reporter: It is a valid question.
Reporter: Stop being disrespectful.
Reporter: No, she’s asking a valid question. If you’re ask your question — you should allow her to ask her question. MS. JEAN-PIERRE: Go ahead, Jeremy.
Reporter: Dr. Fauci —
Reporter: She’s asking a valid question, Dr. Fauci, on the origin of COVID-19. And people —
MS. JEAN-PIERRE: It is not — it is not your turn.
Reporter: No, because —
Reporter: Stop being disrespectful!
Reporter: You call on the same people. That’s the thing.
Reporter: Many people have this question.
Reporter: You complete the press briefing, you need to call from people across the room. She has a valid question. She’s asking about the origin of
MS. JEAN-PIERRE: I hear the question.
Reporter: And Dr. Fauci is the best person to answer that question.
MS. JEAN-PIERRE: I hear your question, but we’re not doing this the way you want it. This is a disrespectful —
Reporter: It’s not about me.
MS. JEAN-PIERRE: It is.
Reporter: It’s about calling from people across the room —
MS. JEAN-PIERRE: I’m done. Simon, I’m done.
Reporter: — not just the same people.
MS. JEAN-PIERRE: Simon, I’m done. I’m done with you right now. Go ahead. Go ahead.
Reporter: asked a valid question.
Reporter: So, only —
MS. JEAN-PIERRE: Go ahead. You’re taking time away from your colleagues.
