White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki dismissed Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s recently announced plan to put illegal immigrants in his state onto a bus and send them to the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. “I’m not aware of what authority the governor would be doing that under. I think it’s pretty clear this is a publicity stunt,” Psaki told Fox News’ Peter Doocy in the White House press room. “I know that the governor of Texas, or any state, does not have the legal authority to compel anyone to get on a bus.” Psaki continued, “His own office admits that a migrant would need to voluntarily be transported and he can’t compel them to because, again, enforcement of our country’s immigration laws lies with the federal government and not a state.”
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said I wish it was only a publicity stunt. She doesn’t understand the reality, or doesn’t care about the reality, of what’s happening on the Texas border. And then, ultimately, what’s happening to all of our states, because really every state is a border state now, affected by what’s going on along the border … This is a real issue. This is not a publicity stunt by the governor.
When asked by Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy whether the administration had a “plan to give free smartphones to U.S. citizens” who wanted them, White House press secretary Jen Psaki asked, “Should we not be tracking migrants who irregularly cross the border?” “Well, it’d be great if anybody that wanted a free phone and a free monthly plan could get one,” Doocy responded. “So is that going to be an offer for everybody or just people that walk into the country illegally?” “Well, Peter, as when we talked about this the other day, what I noted to you is that we have a range of means of tracking individuals who irregularly migrate to the country in order to ensure that they are meeting their notice to appear obligations and that they are appearing in court when they should appear in court,” Psaki said. “Phones is one of them.”
On 4/6/2022, Psaki confirmed Joe Biden is giving illegal aliens free (taxpayer funded) smartphones, “Our team in Texas is saying that you guys are starting to give smartphones to border crossers hoping that they’ll use the phones to check in or to be tracked. Which part of that is supposed to deter people from crossing illegally into the States?” Fox News reporter Peter Doocy asked Psaki. “We need to take steps to ensure that we know where individuals are and we can track and we can check in with them,” Psaki said. Psaki said the handing out of smartphones “is all part of our effort as individuals come into the United States and individuals who are entering who will proceed to immigration proceedings to monitor and track where they are.”
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki claimed that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi kissing President Biden on the cheek and holding his hand did not meet the White House’s definition of “close contact.” “How can you guys say that President Biden was not a close contact with speaker Pelosi when there’s video of the speaker kissing him?” Fox News’ Peter Doocy asked Psaki. “Their definition of it is 15 minutes of contact within a set period of time, within six feet,” Psaki responded. It did not meet that bar.”
