Hunter Biden IRS whistleblower, Respects The Rule Of Law; US EV Batteries Don’t Come From China

On 4/20/2023, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre had a short reponse when she was asked about a report that an IRS whistleblower had come forward to claim politics was affecting the investigation into Hunter Biden’s taxes. ‘I want to be very clear here. The president respects the rule of law and the independence of the Department of Justice,’ Jean-Pierre said when asked about the investigation in President Joe Biden’s son. Her comments claim as a man working on the criminal tax probe into Hunter Biden sought whistleblower protections and claimed politics was ‘improperly infecting decisions’ in the investigation. And top Republicans argued that Biden’s administration is interfering in the probe. ‘We believe that it should be independent. I’m not going to go beyond that.’

Reporter: And the last question is: An IRS special agent wants whistleblower protection to talk about the investigation on Hunter Biden’s taxes. What is the White House’s message to employees who wonder if there should be political considerations when things affect the President’s family?

KJP: So, look, I want to be very clear here. As you know, the President respects the rule of law … The Department of Justice will certainly deal with this issue. Again, he believes in the rule of law. He believes in the independence of the Justice Department.

Reporter: First on Hunter Biden and then on McCarthy. Just to be very clear, for the sake of transparency, which the President says he values: Does the White House support giving this IRS agent whistleblower protections?

KJP: For the state of transparency and so that we do not politicize any of this, the President has been very clear …

Reporter: Can I just have you respond to some Republicans, though, who suggest that the fact that the IRS agent is seeking whistleblower status could show that the administration is slow-walking or somehow obstructing justice?

KJP: We’re — we’re letting Department of Justice handle this … As I mentioned, my White House colleagues at the Counsel’s Office put out — put out a statement on this. They were more specific on that. And so I certainly would refer you to — to my colleagues and to the Department of Justice.

Reporter: just to follow up on that. I know you won’t comment on the investigation, but is the President confident that his Attorney General has upheld all the ethical obligations here when it comes to this investigation?

KJP: …
I — I know, actually, my colleagues from the White House Counsel’s Office actually put out a statement on this and addressed this more — more specifically. But again, I would refer you to the Department of Justice on anything else.

Karine Jean-Pierre Brags About Biden Economy As Inflation Outpaces Wages For Two Straight Years
Reporter: and one of the things that House Republicans are calling for is for some of the unspent pandemic emergency funding to be clawed back. Would the President — I know he has a reputation during the Obama administration as being the sheriff when it comes to rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse — would he at least be interested in reviewing whether there is some of that money that could be returned to Treasury?

KJP: I mean, look, here’s the thing: What the President has been able to do in this first two years of this administration … But we — we — the President — when he came in, nothing was being done. He made sure that our — he made sure that the economy came back — came back in a way that — that it was … so, to say — to claw back money after having — having the successes that we have seen because of this President’s action, it just doesn’t make sense to me.

KJP said that Speaker McCarthy sided with the extreme MAGA wing of his conference and released a blueprint to devastate hard-working American families. MAGA House Republicans are holding the American economy hostage in order to take a hatchet to programs Americans rely on every day to make ends meet. Every House Republican who votes for this bill is voting to cut education … That stands in stark contrast with President Biden’s Budget …

Karine Jean-Pierre Can’t Outline A Concrete Plan To Ensure U.S. EV Batteries Don’t Come From China
Reporter: I wanted to follow up on the White House’s proposal to mandate that two thirds of all passenger vehicles by the year 2032 be electric. That’s a lot of batteries, obviously. So does the administration have a concrete plan to ensure that those raw materials for these new EVs, either through federal support or some type of motivation for the private sector — that those EVs don’t end up coming from China and we don’t become dependent on a foreign power that might not be friendly to us?

KJP: So, here’s what I can say: Every step that the President has taken is to build more here in America … — we are building here, right here
