Doocy Spars with KJP “the Choice? $5 a Gallon Gas or a $61K Electric Car?” Biden isn’t really doing

On 6/23/2022, Fox New reporter Peter Doocy sparred with White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre over Biden’s push for expensive electric cars to offset rising gas prices. Gas prices are at record highs because of Joe Biden’s war on domestic energy production. “Is That the Choice? $5 a Gallon Gas or a $61,000 Electric Car?” – Peter Doocy Spars with Karine Jean-Pierre. The Biden White House is telling the Americans to purchase a $60,000+ electric vehicle and stop complaining about $5+ a gallon gas. “A lot of people can’t afford a $61,000 electric car and they are also having a hard time affording gas right now. That sounds like a painful transition,” Doocy said.

“We are in a transition to clean energy. That is something that is important. It is going to create jobs when you think of electric vehicles. It is going to give families some tax credits, that are going to be really important to have… We’re going to continue to move forward … What we’re trying to do now is deal with an acute problem right now.” KJP said. “Yeah but who can afford an electric car? The average price is $61,000! Is that the choice $5 per gallon gas or a $61,000 electric car?” Doocy asked Jean-Pierre. “That’s apples to oranges. It’s not the same,” she said as she rambled on about Biden’s gimmicky gas tax holiday. Karine Jean-Pierre boasted that Biden’s gas tax holiday will save Americans 18 cents on the federal level.

“The president isn’t really doing everything he can to bring down gas prices, is he?” Doocy asked, setting up a question about why the federal government won’t give out additional oil drilling leases during a period of instability in global energy markets.

Jean-Pierre also responded to the charge that Biden snubbed oil and gas industry bigwigs in Washington this week by meeting with the wind power crowd instead. “We are not at capacity right now,” she said about oil refinery operations in the U.S. “We have a high level of oil production. So what we are asking the oil refinery companies to do is to… refine that oil.” “If the oil refineries do their job, if they do what we are asking them to do, put their profits back in so gas prices can go down, that is almost a dollar per gallon. That matters,” she said.

She repeated that strategic petroleum reserve, “He made a historic choice to tap the strategic petroleum reserve. One million barrels a day for six months. And that helped blunt the impact of what we’re seeing right now with prices going up. So that matters. The Ethanol-15 action the president took matters. It is going to bring down prices in over a thousand gas stations across the country, including the midwest. That matters. So the president is trying to figure out and take steps on how we can bring the gas prices down. We have a high level of oil production. So what we are asking the oil refinery companies to do is to take that production, and turn it into — refine that oil, so there is capacity. We are not at capacity right now. And it does matter that the Secretary of Energy, which it is her purview, that is her portfolio, to meet with these oil execs, that she does on a pretty regular basis.”
