Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee ( D-TX) once sat on the House Science Committee and the House Space Committee. Jackson Lee attended an event at Booker T. Washington High School where the “Trust the Science” party member clearly does not understand the science. Jackson Lee explained to the crowd, “You have the energy of the moon at night.”

“And sometimes you’ve heard the word ‘full moon,’…Sometimes you need to take the opportunity just to come out and see a full moon,” which she then explained is a “complete rounded circle which is made up mostly of gases.” She continued, “That’s why the question is why — or how — could we as humans live on the moon. The gas is such that we can do that.” Undeterred by facts, Jackson Lee added that the “sun is a mighty powerful heat and it’s almost impossible to go near the sun” while the “moon is more manageable.”
