Biden took credit banning burger employees NDA, took credit changing U.S. policy toward China

On 2/7/2023 evening, Joe Biden is delivering his State of the Union Address from the US Capitol in the House chamber. Biden is delivering his address amid multiple scandals.

Biden took credit for banning burger joints like McDonald’s from forcing employees to sign non-compete agreements. “So a cashier at a burger place can’t cross the street to take the same job at another burger place to make a couple bucks more,” he said. Republicans balked. “They just changed it because we exposed it,” Biden retorted. “That was part of the deal guys, look it up.” The president is apparently referring to his July 2021 Executive Order, which encouraged the Federal Trade Commission “to ban or limit non-compete agreements.”

Most fast-food chains have never made any such requirement of their workers, though some did prevent them from working at nearby franchise locations. During his 2020 presidential campaign, Biden made frequent use of this talking point, even earning the rebuke of left-leaning fact checkers. Biden said, “Thirty million workers have to sign non-compete agreements for the jobs they take. Thirty million. So a cashier at a burger place can’t walk across town and take the same job at another burger place and make a few bucks more.

AUDIENCE: Booo —
THE PRESIDENT: It just changed. Well, they just changed it because we exposed it. That was part of the deal, guys. Look it up. “

Tyre Nichols’ parents were present at the speech. Biden referred to Tyre Nichols as “Tyler Nichols” in the speech, he said, “Let’s commit ourselves to make the words of Tyler’s mom true: Something good must come from this.”

Biden Says China “Was Increasing Its Power And America Was Failing” Before He Took Office. “Before I came to office,” Biden noted in his address, “the story was about how the People’s Republic of China was increasing its power and America was failing in the world. Not anymore.”

Former president Donald Trump has often been credited with changing U.S. policy toward China. Under Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, his administration cracked down on Chinese espionage campaigns and moved to ban TikTok. Biden made no mention that a Chinese spy balloon traversed the United States just days before his State of the Union.

It’s not clear why he was screaming about Xi Jinping. He said, “But in the past two years, democracies have become stronger, not weaker. Autocracies have grown weaker, not stronger. Name me a world leader who’d change places with Xi Jinping. Name me one. Name me one.”
PELOSI: Biden Is “A President With Great Judgment. Sometimes That Judgment Comes With Age”

Joe Biden began to address one of the guests brought by his wife, Jill Biden. That guest was the Ukrainian ambassador to the United States, Oksana Markarova. In doing so, Biden said: “Tonight…we’re once again joined by Ukrainian’s ambassador to the United States. She represents not just her nation, but the courage of her people. Ambassador… {garbled followed by awkward pause} our ambassador is here. We’re {slurred} united in our support of your country. Would you stand so that we could all take a look at you?” The statement doesn’t do the awkwardness of the delivery any justice. Biden is lost. He either can’t pronounce her name or he completely forgot it.
