On 1/17/2023, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre once again dodged questions on the Biden documents scandal. Reporters repeatedly grilled Jean-Pierre about the searches for classified documents after she was caught lying about the timeline. Last Thursday Jean-Pierre claimed SIX times the search for classified materials was complete. Two days later, White House lawyer Richard Sauber issued a Saturday statement saying he went to Biden’s Wilmington, Delaware, home Thursday evening and found more classified documents after other documents were previously discovered there in December. Classified documents were also found at Biden’s private office at the Penn Biden Center in November, just days before the midterm elections. The developments only became public this month after CBS News broke the story and the White House was forced to respond.
A reporter asked Jean-Pierre, “The White House says Republicans are “faking outrage” on this issue. Why shouldn’t Americans be outraged about classified documents being found in a garage?”
MS. JEAN-PIERRE: Look — and I think I’ve been very clear about this. We have answered questions on this at this podium. You’ve heard, as Phil was saying, twice from the President talk about this. He said that he didn’t know. Right? He said that he was surprised. And he said that he takes classified information and documents very, very seriously. We heard directly from the President on this issue.
Reporter: I guess that’s why I’m asking, though — because you’ve said that you don’t want interfere here and be prudent about the process, but the White House did post a statement saying that Republicans are “faking outrage.” So, to that point, why shouldn’t Americans be upset about documents found in a garage?
MS. JEAN-PIERRE: And that’s for — that’s for the American people to decide. Right? That is for — you all are, I’m sure, going to talk to many folks out there.
On 1/20/2022, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked why Biden said he has “no regrets” for hiding stolen classified documents in his garage next to his Corvette. When a reporter asked Jean-Pierre about the comments Biden said while touring California Thursday, Jean-Pierre responded, “I’m not going to get into specifics, or I’m not going to go beyond what the president has said.” She added, “I will reiterate from here… basically what he said to all of you, many times at this point, that he does indeed take classified information seriously, he does indeed take classified documents seriously. I’m just not going to go beyond that.”
On 1/19/2023, Joe Biden traveled to Santa Clara, California to survey the damage caused by severe winter storms. Biden was greeted by California Governor Gavin Newsom before touring the damage on Marine One. Joe Biden delivered remarks at Seacliff State Park to reassure residents the federal government will be helping the community rebuild after the storms.
Joe Biden said he has “no regrets” when asked about the stolen classified documents found in his garage next to his Corvette. Biden was visibly irritated by the reporter because she was doing her job by asking questions about the classified documents stored in his garage. “What quite frankly bugs me is we have a serious problem here and the American people don’t quite understand why you don’t ask me questions about that,” Biden said. “I have no regrets. I’m following what the lawyers have told me they want me to do. It’s exactly what we’re doing. There’s no there, there,” Biden said.
On 1/20/2023, a reporter asked White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, “One clarification, if I can, on the President’s answer yesterday to the documents. He said in that answer that he’s doing everything that attorneys are asking him to do, so it’s protocol and everything. Was his answer vetted through — through counsel or anything like that? Can you tell us that?
MS. JEAN-PIERRE: I mean, it’s the same thing that he has said before, which is: He and his team are cooperating fully. That’s — that’s the same —
Reporter: And so, there was no —
MS. JEAN-PIERRE: There’s the same —
Reporter: So it’s —
MS. JEAN-PIERRE: That’s the same answer he has given many, many times and so has his White Co- — White House Counsel’s Office, is that his and his team —
Reporter: And so, I guess, talking about in the way that he did, that was —
MS. JEAN-PIERRE: He — I — again, he is — he — that’s nothing new. He has said that before. But, again, I am not going to get into, parse the words of the President. It is — you heard him say what he — gave his remarks and make his statement. I’m just not going to dive into that.
Reporter: Does the President have any concern about the number of job cuts that are happening in the tech sector? Alphabet announced — that’s Google’s parent company, obviously — announced 12,000 job cuts today.
