Biden: I’m going to Georgia to help Warren! Gas prices down, same period: wage larger than inflation

On 12/2/22, Joe Biden signed H.J. Res. 100 to avert a nationwide rail shutdown after Congress intervened in union negotiations. The Senate-passed bill to avert the rail worker strike did not include seven days of paid sick leave. After signing the bill, a reporter asked Biden why he isn’t going to Georgia to help Senator Warnock. Warnock is in a tight race against Republican Herschel Walker for Georgia’s senate seat. However, Joe Biden has not been invited to Georgia for Warnock. Biden got Senators Warnock and Warren confused. Then he forgot where he was going today. “I’m going to Georgia today to help Senator Warren! Not to Georgia, I’m gonna help Senator Warren then I’m doing a major fundraiser in Boston,” Biden said.

Reporter: Mr. President, why aren’t you going to Georgia to help Senator Warnock?

THE PRESIDENT: I’m going to Georgia today to help Senator War- — not to Georgia; we’re going to help Senator Warnock because I’m doing a major fundraiser up in Boston today for — for the — our next and continued Senate candidate and senator. Thank you.

Reporter: Mr. President, how soon should rail workers expect sick days?
THE PRESIDENT: As soon as I can convince our Republicans to see the light.

Biden said, “look, folks, gas prices are down and you barely hear anything about it right now. And they’re continuing to go down. And there — there’s a lot more that’s going to happen. And they’re down more than $1.50 a gallon since the summer, and they continue to fall. And our economy continues to grow.”
“And wages for working families — I want to say this again — wages for working families, in fact, over the last couple of months, have gone up — up. These wage increases are larger than the increase in inflation during that same period of time.”

Biden said, “I want to thank Congress once again for being partners today, for averting this disaster and keeping our economy on a stable footing during the holiday season. I want to thank you all. And now I’m going to reach over here and sign this bill and make it official.”

On 11/28/2022, a reporter asked White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, “Let me ask you this: In 1992, the last time Congress intervened to prevent a labor rail shutdown, Joe Biden was one of six senators, and only six, to say that the Congress should not intervene, that it’s a dynamic that favors the railroads against the interests of the workers. Why would he seek congressional intervention now?
MS. JEAN-PIERRE: Look, again, I can’t — I’m — when the President has made a decision on this, if he makes a decision on this, you’ll hear directly from him. Don’t have anything to share or preview at this time.
