Tom Emmer will be No. 3 House Republican as majority whip

#shorts Tom Emmer won out over his colleagues on the second ballot count, securing the job that will be crucial in what is likely to be a razor-thin Republican majority, “”We will be the only check on the Biden administration and a Democrat-controlled Senate over the next 2 years.” House GOP conference chose him as majority whip in leadership election. Emmer won the No. 3 position on the third ballot in a closed-door House GOP meeting, defeating U.S. Reps. Jim Banks of Indiana and Drew Ferguson of Georgia. “We’re excited to get to work. We’re excited to be back in the majority.”

On 11/15/2022, House Republicans voted 188-31 to formally nominate Kevin McCarthy to serve as speaker in the next Congress, but the opposition shows the work he’ll have to do before a floor election in January, when he’ll likely need 218 votes. California Rep. Kevin McCarthy fought off a challenge by Arizona Rep. Andy Biggs and is on track to become the next speaker. McCarthy and the newly elected GOP leadership team held a news conference.

North Carolina Rep. Richard Hudson became chair of House Republicans’ campaign arm, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC). His election was uncontested.
