Biden on migrant surge: ‘not rational to send them back’; WH again walks back Biden Taiwan promise

On 9/20/2022, President Joe Biden said it was “not rational” to send migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border back to nations like Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua as concerns grow over the number of migrants arriving at the southern border. A reporter asked Biden why the border is “more overwhelmed on your watch.” “Because there are three countries,” Biden began. “There are fewer and fewer immigrants coming from Central America than from Mexico. It’s a totally different circumstance.” “What’s on my watch now is Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua, and the ability to send them back to those states is not rational,” he continued.

“We’re working with Mexico and other countries to see if we can stop the flow,” he added. Biden has faced mounting questions over the number of illegal crossings and the spike in apprehensions at the border as conservative leaders have begun transporting migrants to various locations across the U.S., including Martha’s Vineyard and even in front of Vice President Kamala Harris’ home in D.C.

On 9/20/2022, at White House press briefing, National security adviser Jake Sullivan walked back President Biden’s statement that the U.S. would deploy troops to defend Taiwan from China, saying Biden was answering a hypothetical and that there was no change in policy, “as the president said in his interview on ‘60 Minutes,’ we continue to stand behind the ‘One China’ policy,” Sullivan said. “When the president of the United States wants to announce a policy change, he will do so. He has not done so.” “[Biden] stands behind the historic U.S. policy toward Taiwan that has existed through Democrat and Republican administrations and has helped keep peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait for decades,” he continued. Sullivan’s statement marks the latest instance in which the White House has had to walk back Biden’s comments on Taiwan. While Biden stated on Sunday and in other instances that the U.S. stands behind the “One China” policy, he has repeated suggestions that the U.S. would defend the self-governed island militarily.

Biden first made the blunder in an August 2021 interview with George Stephanopoulos, in which he listed Taiwan among America’s closest allies that we would be willing to defend. The president then repeated the statement again in May, saying the defense of Taiwan is a “commitment we made.” The White House clarified each time that the U.S. was not announcing any such commitment and that there was no change in policy.

Kamala Harris: “community banks are in the community…community…community”.
Former Obama Economist Larry Summers: Biden Admin “kind of insane” for not constructing more pipelines.

A Biden economic advisor was asked about FedEx confirming that we’re already in a recession and she blamed climate change, “We’re all coming out globally of a global pandemic, on top of that this war in the Ukraine that has upended global energy markets, these are very challenging times,” Heather Boushey, Biden’s Council of Economic Advisors said. She continued, “Then you add to it, disasters, like what just happened in Puerto Rico where they had no electricity because of a storm. These kinds of climate challenges also are in front of us…” Heather Boushey also said American households are currently in a “fairly good situation” heading into a recession.
