On 7/18/2022, Fox News reporter Peter Doocy pressed White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre over Joe Biden’s disastrous trip to Saudi Arabia. Joe Biden went back on his promise not to meet with Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. “I’m not going to meet with MBS. I’m going to an international meeting, and he’s going to be part of it,” Biden said last month. Biden was greeted with a fist bump when he arrived to Alsalam Royal Palace in Jeddah.
Doocy asked whether she personally heard the president confront the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Jean-Pierre said the president clearly laid out what he addressed during the meeting with the crown prince.
Doocy also pressed Jean-Pierre on Vice President Kamala Harris’ slavery comments. The vice president said the U.S. has a “history of claiming ownership over human bodies” during a speech to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Convention. Doocy asked the press secretary whether Biden agrees with VP Harris. “Does the president agree with her that the recent Supreme Court decision on abortion access is similar to slavery?” Doocy asked.
“I have not seen her comments,” Jean-Pierre said. “I would like to see her comments for myself before—” “Her comment was ‘we know, NAACP, that our country has a history of claiming ownership over human bodies.’” Doocy said. “Well, she’s correct. Today’s decisions … I appreciate you reading out what she said, I need to actually see exactly what was said in the complete context. That’s what I need to do as a spokesperson for the administration.”
Jean-Pierre getting a Supreme Court justice’s name and title wrong. She had a particularly embarrassing flub about Justice Clarence Thomas. While criticizing his concurring opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson, which is just that, a concurrence, she referred to him as Judge Thompson. Her comments came when taking a question from the Wall Street Journal’s Ken Thomas, as Jean-Pierre spoke to “as we know, from, um, the Dobbs decision, uh, one of the things that we, uh, saw from uh, from Judge Thompson is they’re looking to go further …”
On 7/18/2022, A reporter asked Jean-Pierre to explain Biden’ answer ‘Why don’t you guys talk about something that matters?’: On 7/17/2022, President Biden was asked if he regretted fist-bumping Saudi Arabia Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman upon returning from his trip to the Middle East. “Why don’t you guys talk about something that matters? I’m happy to answer a question that matters,” Biden said.
