On 7/13/2022, Senate Republicans pressed Interior Secretary Deb Haaland about why the Biden administration was holding back oil and gas leasing on federal lands and waters despite record gasoline prices this year. Alaska Ranking Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski questioned whether the administration had thought out the damaging effect their climate policies could have on domestic energy prices. “As we transition from a fossil-based society, a transition requires there be a path forward that is sensible for your economy,” she said. “I think that it’s unacceptable for the department to consider a five-year plan with no lease sales.” She called the no-lease option “unacceptable” and called for annual lease sales in federal waters of Cook Inlet. The most the plan could accommodate would be one sale in five years. She fact checked on cancelled Energy Leases, Biden Interior Sec. Deb Haaland, a former Democratic House member from New Mexico, replied “Not Sure What To Say.” On the offshore plan, Murkowski said even considering not holding new leases was nonsensical. “I think it’s actually harmful to our economy and our national security,” she said. “The national interest demands the administration avoid a costly gap in leasing and that it conducts offshore sales.”
Murkowski acknowledged that there would be a transition to other forms of energy, but said that for now, increasing oil supply was needed to bring down prices. Murkowski urged approval of the Willow project to allow massive oil drilling in the North Slope of Alaska. The department’s Bureau of Land Management released a draft environmental impact statement moving the project forward last week. The questions during a Senate Appropriations Committee budget hearing comes two weeks after the Interior Department released an offshore drilling plan that proposed lease sales in established drilling areas in the Gulf of Mexico and southern Alaska but left open the option of holding no lease sales over the next five years, citing the the need to transition from fossil fuels.

CNN Calls Out Biden Admin For Saying December 10 Was The Peak Of The Inflation Crisis.
On 7/13/2022, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik joined her colleagues at the House Republican Leadership press conference to hold the Biden administration and House Democrats accountable for the countless crises facing hardworking Americans because of their failed Far-Left agenda. Under Democrat one-party rule, inflation skyrocketed to another 41-year high in June, Americans are paying double the price at the pump. She said, “Democrats’ one-party rule in Washington has failed hardworking families across America. Just this morning, we learned that ‘Bidenflation’ hit another new 40-year high, soaring to 9.1%. And Democrats’ war on American energy has every American feeling pain at the pump, as gas prices have more than DOUBLED under this Administration because of Joe Biden’s energy crisis. These historic gas prices hit rural areas, like my district in Upstate New York, particularly hard.”
“Yet, House Democrats continue to pass the buck on these crises, because they have no solutions to any of these crises that they have created. I have long said that the American people are smart. They know that Joe Biden and House Democrats’ failed policies are to blame for crisis after crisis in this country. In fact, new polling found that nearly 60% of Americans say the federal government under Democrat one-party rule is to blame for today’s economic crisis. And 80% – a stunning number – think the country is “on the wrong track.” Families deserve better, and House Republicans will provide solutions to these crises and hold this failed Biden administration accountable when we work to earn the Majority in November.”
