On 7/8/2022, President Joe Biden delivered remarks as he signed an executive order after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade. At one point Dementia Joe read a line from the teleprompter instructions out loud. He read two different instructions. “Repeat the line,” Biden said after saying “end of quote.”
“This was not a decision driven by the Constitution…this was not a decision driven by history…What we’re witnessing wasn’t a constitutional judgment. It was an exercise in raw political power,” Biden said. “We cannot allow an out-of-control Supreme Court, working in conjunction with extremist elements of the Republican Party, to take away freedoms and our personal autonomy. The choice we face as a nation is between the mainstream and the extreme,” he added.
CBS News reporter Robert Costa had asked Harris if she believed that the Democrats failed their voters by not codifying Roe v. Wade. “I think that, to be very honest with you, I do believe that we should have rightly believed, but we certainly believe that certain issues are just settled. Certain issues are just settled,” Harris rambled. “Clearly were not,” Costa said. “No, that’s right,” Harris said. “And that’s why I do believe that we are living, sadly, in real unsettled times.” Roe v Wade was passed in 1973. Since then Democrats have had 15 congressional majorities, and four presidents.
On 7/8/2022, during the White House press briefing, a reporter pressed White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, “In many ways, the President’s rhetoric today was almost declaring war on the Court … But he said some things that are kind of unusual for a President who is an institutionalist, when you’re talking about a co-equal branch of government. Is it the President’s view that the Court is not apolitical any longer? Is it his view that it is, in fact, motivated by politics in all matters or just the Dobbs decision?”
JEAN-PIERRE: Well, I’ll say this: The President respects the institution. He respects the Court. What he doesn’t — what he believes was unconstitutional, and spoke to this — to this this morning — to this morning and also prior, is their decision. He believes the decision that this Court has made is extreme and it is beyond the pale. We are talking about, as you know, you know, a constitutional right that was around for almost 50 years … when you think about contraception, when you think what else that — what else extreme Republicans — Republicans that he has called the “Ultra” — the “Ultra-MAGA” of the Republican wing is planning to do. But the reality is: In order to have pro-choice senators, pro-choice House members, we have to make sure that folks have their voices heard at the ballot box. And that is what he’s going to continue to call on to make sure that they exercise their rights as well.”
Reporter: Is it his view that the Court is now a politicized body or not an independent judicial panel?
JEAN-PIERRE: Well, he believes that this was done by a war of political power. You heard him say that today, that this decision was not a constitutional decision. It was beyond extreme. … Again, this decision was incredibly extreme. He’s going to — he’s called that out. He’s talked about that very emphatically, as you heard him today. And — but we have to also do our part. We have to do everything that we can to codify Roe into law. And the only way to do that is to make sure that Congress acts.
