On 11/8/2021, White House deputy press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre refused to answer any questions about DOJ considering payments to illegal immigrants separated from their families under the Trump administration. Jean-Pierre was asked by Fox News’ Peter Doocy who would qualify as “separated,” and whether illegals who were separated from their families for only a couple hours or days would qualify for compensation from the U.S. government. “So, Peter, I will direct you to the Department of Justice for any specifics on that,” Jean-Pierre responded. “You’ve asked us this question. We have answered it. And I will refer you to the Department of Justice on any specifics.”
Doocy pushed back, asking, “Going back to 2018, some illegal immigrants were given a choice, get deported alone or get deported with their kids. If somebody chose to be separated, chose to go back by themselves without their family, would they be eligible to settle one of these lawsuits?” “Peter, I’m going to refer you to Department of Justice,” Jean-Pierre replied. “I don’t have anything more to say. And I’m going to move on, OK? All right. Thank you.”
Jean-Pierre backtracks after slamming pipeline reporting as ‘inaccurate,’ admits admin is weighing shutdown. Jean-Pierre backtracked after slamming reporting on the Line 5 pipeline in Michigan as “inaccurate,” admitting that the administration is indeed exploring the potential impact of shutting it down amid a global energy crisis. Peter Doocy asked why the Biden administration is “now considering shutting down the Line 5 pipeline from Canada to Michigan” while oil and gas prices continue to skyrocket.
“So, Peter, that is inaccurate,” Jean-Pierre fired back. “That is not right. So any reporting indicating that some decision has been made, again, is not accurate.” “What’s inaccurate?” Doocy asked. “The reporting about us wanting to shut down the Line 5,” Jean-Pierre responded. “I didn’t say ‘wanting,’” Doocy said. “I said, is it being studied right now? Is the administration studying the impact of shutting down the Line 5?
“Yes, we are. We are,” Jean-Pierre replied. “I thought you were saying that we were going to shut it down, but that is not inaccurate. The Army Corps of Engineers is preparing an environmental impact to look through this.”
