On 2/7/2022, Joe Biden held a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz after meeting with him in the Oval Office. A Reuters reporter asked Joe Biden how he plans to stop the Nord Stream 2 pipeline from being finished. “If Russia invades, that means tanks or troops crossing the border of Ukraine again, then there will be no longer a Nord Stream 2. We will bring an end to it,” Biden said. The Reuters reporter pressed Biden: “How will you do that exactly since the project, and control of the project is within Germany’s control?”
Biden had no answer. “I promise you, we will be able to do that,” Biden said smirking.
Psaki says Biden committed to “respectful work environment” weeks after cursing out reporter. On 1/20/2021, Biden said, “I’m not joking when I say this: If you’re ever working with me and I hear you treat another colleague with disrespect or talk down to someone, I promise you, I will fire you on the spot — on the spot. No ifs ands or buts.” The reporters’ questions were:
“the fact that Dr. Lander has a job, still, cheapen the President’s promise to fire anyone who treats colleagues with disrespect on the spot?”
“the investigation found credible evidence of multiple women having complained to other staff about negative interactions with him,” with a pattern of abusive and disrespectful behavior. Again, the President, at the outset of this administration said, “I will fire you on the spot. On the spot. No ifs, ands, or buts.” So why is he not being fired?”
“on Inauguration Day, President Biden said he would fire anyone that treated another colleague with disrespect, talked down to someone — and they would — he would fire them “on the spot” — “No, ifs, ands, or buts.” So what is the White House’s message to people that work in this building and throughout the federal government that took the President at his word and don’t understand why Dr. Lander has not been fired?”
Psaki replied, “And our objective is, of course, to prevent any of this behavior from happening again in the future. That’s the overarching objective.”
reporter: But those weren’t comments; those were a promise.
Psaki: Absolutely.
reporter: So, fellow federal employees shouldn’t expect that people will be fired if they treat colleagues with disrespect?
Psaki: Again, I think I’ve outlined very clearly what the process was.
reporter: But it doesn’t sound like a zero-tolerance policy if that’s the case.
Psaki: Well, our objective and the President’s objective is to prevent this behavior from ever happening again.
Asked about drilling in other areas of U.S., Psaki quickly pivots to “clean energy transition.”
