Reporter: Does he think it’s fair for girls to have to compete against biological males?
KJP: I just answered the question. It is a complicated issue. It is truly a complicated issue with a wide range of views — a wide range of views. There is no yes or no answer to this; it is complicated. There’s a rule that the Department of Education has put forward. And we’re going to let that — that process move forward. And it is — again, we want to make sure that while we establish guardrails with this rule, that we also prevent discrimination as well against transgender kids. But, again, a complicated issue with a wide range of views, and we respect that.
Karine Jean-Pierre Won’t Say If Biden Thinks Biological Boys Should Be Playing On Girls’ Sports
Reporter: question on the big election topic, transgender rights. Former Governor Nikki Haley and presidential candidate says, quote, “The idea that we have biological boys playing in girls’ sports, it is the women’s issue of our time.” Does the President agree that this is a women’s rights issue?
KJP: So, we’ve talked about this many times. This is the Title 9, specifically. Look — and, again, we’ve talked about this multiple times. It’s a complicated issue, and there are a wide range of views on this. The Department of Education proposed a rule, as you know, that gives schools the flexibility to establish their own athletics policies. And so, while establishing guardrails — right? — to — to prevent discrimination against trander- –gender — kids, and that is something that is incredibly important that the President wants to make sure that we also do that as well. So, I’m just not going to get ahead of that. As I said, there’s a proposed rule for — and Title 9 — on Title 9 that the Department of Education has laid out, so I’m just not going to get ahead of that as it relates to Department of Education.
Reporter: The President has granddaughters. Does he care that girls are allowed to compete in sports without the —
KJP: I just —

Karine Jean-Pierre Struggles With Pronouncing Yet Another Word: “Russian WarLoad”
White House appeared to formally acknowledge that the government believes Wagner group chief Yevgeny Prigozhin was assassinated by Russian President Vladimir Putin. “It seems pretty evident what happened here,” Jean-Pierre told reporters on Tuesday, referring to President Biden’s earlier remarks on Prigozhin’s death. “There’s not much that happens in Russia that Putin is not behind,” Biden said last week after Prigozhin was reported killed in a private plane crash.
Reporter: The Kremlin, as you’re aware, earlier today said Putin will not attend Prigozhin’s funeral. And we’re just wondering if there is an update on whether the U.S. thinks Putin is behind the Prigozhin plane crash.
KJP: … if we take a step back, if you look back for a second, all of this happened because of dysfunction inside Russia. A Russian warload himself — a cold-blooded killer, a cold-blooded murderer — became so frustrated by the way that the Russian government was waging its unprovoked war against Ukraine that he criticized Russia’s failing policies. You heard that directly from him.
And so, he called out the w- — the war’s needlessness and marched on Moscow before — before reaching a deal with Mr. Putin. He made that ver- — we saw that. You all covered it for — for multiple hours. And so, now, two months later, after he struck that deal, he’s been killed.
So, you know, it’s very clear. It’s pretty evident what happened here. I don’t have anything else to say.
Reporter: But when will we have an assessment from the administration on the record?
KJP: I mean, I just said it’s very clear of what happened here. There is new assessment —
Reporter: So you’re — so you’re saying it, but you’re not saying it?
KJP: It is — it is very clear. It is very clear. I just laid it out. I don’t have any new assessment for you on this.
