Biden was originally slated to hold a second meeting with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and the other congressional leaders Friday, but the group postponed until the following week as the country rapidly approaches the “X Date.” Jean-Pierre faced a number of questions on the topic during Friday’s press briefing and reiterated that Biden will not agree to specific spending cuts in exchange for a debt limit hike, as demanded by some Republicans. “There’s no deal to be had on the debt ceiling,” the press secretary told reporters. “This is something Congress needs to do. This is their constitutional duty.”
