Karine Jean-Pierre Refuses To Say Why Biden Hasn’t Sanctioned Hunter’s Russian Billionaire Friends
On 3/6/2023, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre got testy with a reporter asking why Joe Biden has not sanctioned the Russian oligarch who wired Hunter Biden millions of dollars. In September 2020 the Senate Finance and Homeland Security Committees released a devastating report on the Biden family and backed up their claims with documents from the Treasury Department. According to documents the Senate committees obtained from the Treasury Department: Hunter Biden received a $3.5 million wire transfer from Elena Baturina, the wife of the former mayor of Moscow on February 14, 2014 and another $241,797 to a bank account for Rosemont Seneca Thornton from May-December 2015.
The Biden White House has sanctioned several Russian oligarchs in the last year, however, they have completely left Elena Baturina alone. “If you could, share the reason why President Biden hasn’t sanctioned the Russian billionaires Vladimir Yevtushenkov and Yelena Baturina. How is he handling the conflict of interest there given his son was a business associate of these two people,” a reporter asked KJP. “And can you confirm that as sitting vice president he dined with Baturina in Georgetown.”
A visibly irritated Karine Jean-Pierre refused to answer the question. “I’m just not speaking to anything that’s related to his son…” she said. KJP raised her hand and stopped the reporter from asking any further questions about Hunter Biden’s financial ties with Elena Baturina.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre offered a dismissive response to Democrat Marianne Williamson’s long-shot 2024 presidential campaign, poking fun at the self-help author and spiritual adviser. A reporter asked Jean-Pierre on Monday if President Joe Biden was “annoyed” or “frustrated” with Williamson, who formally announced her candidacy Saturday.
“Just not tracking that,” Jean-Pierre responded. “If I had a — what is it called? — a little globe here, a crystal ball that I can tell you, a magic eight ball, whatever. If I could feel her aura,” she continued, to laughter. “I just don’t have anything to share on that.” “Oh gosh, you guys are making me laugh now,” Jean-Pierre, who typically takes pains to avoid commenting on electoral politics from the White House podium, added.
Williamson’s bid makes her the first known Democratic primary challenger to Biden, who has said he plans to seek reelection. Williamson has been critical of Biden’s stewardship of the economy, saying that his decision to tout its strength showed a “disconnect between the analysis of party elites versus the struggle of everyday Americans. The majority of Americans are still struggling to survive,” she said.

Jean-Pierre downplayed criticisms from Washington’s Mayor Muriel Bowser over federal involvement in the district’s bill. Bowser, who, like Biden, opposed the bill, cautioned that federal interference was a “slippery slope” that trampled upon Washington’s home rule. Jean-Pierre was coy about whether the Biden administration informed Bowser in advance of announcing last week that he wouldn’t veto congressional legislation to overturn the city’s crime bill. “Our team, the intergovernmental affairs team, is in constant communication with her team and was last week,” Jean-Pierre said during a press briefing. “They are in constant communication.”
When pressed about Bowser’s concerns, Jean-Pierre said, “This was brought to him. This is not something that we put forward.” “[Biden] wanted to make sure that he delivered for the 700,000 residents of D.C. in a way that was protecting the residents here,” she said. “He wants to be very clear and communicate with the people of D.C. and with all of you about how he was going to move forward.”
