On 2/8/2023, Joe Biden departed the White House en route to Dane County, Wisconsin to boast about his economy. Joe Biden delivered remarks at the LIUNA Training Center in DeForest, Wisconsin in Dane County. Biden’s microphone randomly stopped working and he struggled to read his own teleprompter. Then he looked up at union workers and shouted, “don’t jump!” Why does Biden always do this? Biden said, “If you have a seat, take one. If you don’t, come on up on stage with me. Well, thank you very much. You know — (picks up a different handheld microphone) — got it over here. Hey, folks. How are you? Don’t jump. Don’t jump.”
BIDEN Makes No Sense: “This Is A Blue-Collar Blue Change We’re Seeing”. Biden said, ” today I’m here to talk about one part of that vision: the economy that works for working people. This is a blue-collar blue change we’re seeing.”
Biden, Even As Americans Are POORER Under Him: “The Biden Economic Plan Is Working”, “The economy is growing at a solid clip. Folks, I hate to disappoint them, but the Biden economic plan is working. It’s working,” Biden said. Like $7 a dozen eggs, 8+% inflation, high gas prices and no baby formula?
On the topic of Republicans Medicare and Social Security sunset Biden talked about in his State of The Union, Biden continued, “You know, we’ve made a lot of progress over the past two years. Many of you have seen we’ve had a spirited debate last night with my Republican friends. My Republicans friends, they seemed shocked — when I raised the plans of some of their members and their caucus to cut Social Security. And Marjorie Taylor Greene and others stood up and said, “Liar! Liar!” It reminds of that “Liar, liar, house on fire.” Yeah.
…
But here’s — but here’s, actually, the good news. There’s a lot of good Republicans. I found it interesting that when I called them out on it last night, it sounded like they agreed to take these cuts off the table. Remember I said — no, I’m serious. Remember what I said? I said, “So you’re not going to cut it, huh?” “No!” I said, “Okay, we got a deal.” Well, I sure hope that’s true. I’ll believe it when I see it and their budget is laid down with their cuts they’re proposing. But it looks like we negotiated a deal last night on the floor of the House of Representatives. Seriously. You see them all standing up, saying, “We’re not going cut anything”? “
House and Senate Republican leaders say they don’t support this, but at least one senator has broadly floated the idea. Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., released a plan in 2022 that stated “all federal legislation sunsets in 5 years. If a law is worth keeping, Congress can pass it again.” Scott’s proposal does not specifically call for a phase-out of Medicare and Social Security, which were created generations ago through federal legislation. And it doesn’t have widespread support among his party; Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Republican leader in the Senate, in 2022 said it would not be part of the party’s agenda.
Some House Republicans have left open the possibility of changing the programs, including raising the eligibility age. Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., suggested in August that Congress approve Social Security and Medicare annually rather than as an automatic entitlement. But House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., said Jan. 29 during a CBS “Face the Nation” interview that cuts to Social Security or Medicare are “off the table.”
On 2/8/2023, during his State of The Union address, Biden said, “”So my — many of — some of my Republican friends want to take the economy hostage — I get it — unless I agree to their economic plans. All of you at home should know what those plans are. Instead of making the wealthy pay their fair share, some Republicans — some Republicans want Medicare and Social Security to sunset. I’m not saying it’s a majority —”
AUDIENCE: Booo —
Biden: Let me give you
AUDIENCE: No!
Biden: Anybody who doubts it, contact my office. I’ll give you a copy. I’ll give you a copy of the proposal.
AUDIENCE MEMBER: Liar!
Biden: That means Congress doesn’t vote —
Well, I’m glad to see — no, I tell you, I enjoy conversion. (Laughter.)
You know, it means if Congress doesn’t keep the programs the way they are, they’d go away. Other Republicans say — I’m not saying it’s a majority of you. I don’t even think it’s a significant —
AUDIENCE MEMBER: (Inaudible.)
Biden: — but it’s being proposed by individuals.
I’m not — politely not naming them, but it’s being proposed by some of you.
Biden: Look, folks, the idea is that we’re not going to be — we’re not going to be moved into being threatened to default on the debt if we don’t respond. Folks so, folks, as we all apparently agree, Social Security and Medicare is off the books now, right? They’re not to be touched? All right. We got unanimity!
